Supreme Court considers diminished responsibility

On 30 November 2016, a seven-member tribunal of the Supreme Court handed down judgment in R v Golds. The case concerned the meaning of the word ‘substantial’ for the purposes of the partial defence of diminished responsibility under the amended section 2 of the Homicide Act 1957. David Perry QC appeared for the Crown Prosecution Service.
