Paul Humpherson helps launch the Law Commission's new recommendations on Contempt of Court

Paul is currently seconded to the Law Commission as the lawyer leading on the Contempt of Court project, under the supervision of the Law Commissioner,┬áProfessor David Omerod QC. The Commission’s first report on this subject was released on the 9th December 2013. It recommends the creation of a new criminal offence for jurors conducting prohibited research, and makes new proposals for dealing with online material which risks prejudicing jury trials. Further reports on the contempt project, dealing with reporting restrictions and contempt in the face of the court, will be published in 2014.
