Overview

6KBW College Hill has long been ranked as a top-tier set for Crime in Chambers and Partners and the Legal 500. Much of our work is groundbreaking and newsworthy.

Currently, five of our members are Senior Treasury Counsel at the Central Criminal Court and two are Junior Treasury Counsel. Many others are former Treasury Counsel. 6KBW College Hill is also home to some of the country’s leading defence practitioners.

A substantial number of our members contribute to the leading practitioner work, Blackstone’s Criminal Practice (Oxford University Press).

Criminal litigation

We provide advice and representation on all aspects of criminal litigation, throughout proceedings. Our experience encompasses everything from pre-charge advice to representation before the Supreme Court, and the Strasbourg Court.

 

Homicide

We prosecute and defend in cases of murder and manslaughter. We also act for companies and individuals in cases of corporate manslaughter.

Our work has included:

  • The re-trial of Gary Dobson and David Norris for the murder of Stephen Lawrence
  • The G4S manslaughter trial, following the death of Jimmy Mubenga
  • The prosecution of Levi Bellfield for the murder of schoolgirl Millie Dowler

Terrorism

We provide advice and representation at all stages of investigation and prosecution of terrorist offences. Our work has included:

  • The prosecution of radical cleric Abu Hamza
  • The trial of the failed 21/7 bombers
  • The prosecution of the failed Al Qaeda plot to bomb the London Stock Exchange

Our members also regularly act in terrorism cases involving public and civil law.

Fraud, bribery and corruption

We prosecute and defend in cases across the spectrum of fraud, bribery and corruption. We have particular expertise in cases of bribery and corruption in the field of corporate crime. Our work has included:

  • The $2.3 billion “rogue UBS trader” banking fraud
  • The $250 million fraud perpetrated by James Ibori, the former Governor of Delta State, Nigeria
  • The trial of Asil Nadir, former Chairman of Polly Peck International
  • The £740 million mortgage fraud on Allied Irish Bank

Regulatory

We have a wealth of experience in criminal regulatory law, acting for local councils, regulators, commercial bodies and individuals. We have particular expertise in regulatory law involving licensing, gambling, environmental protection, food safety and immigration. We also have significant experience in financial regulation in relation to corporate crime.
